Cortez, San Clemente
With the intention of moving closer to the beach this home was bought to become the ideal beach home, to take full advantage of all the benefits that San Clemente could offer and the beautiful climate Southern California is known for. The two key features of the remodel would be to open up to the incredible view and to make the threshold of inside and outside disappear. The roof pitch was altered to allow vaulted ceilings in both the new great room and the master suite. This also opened up to the view and allowed large sliding doors to pocket and slide away to create an easy flow out to the new deck.

The home takes advantage of the modern floor plan, with a large great room and easy flow to the outdoors but keeps a relationship with traditional style. With some elements of a modern material palette, from the horizontal wood siding, the stacking limestone and the clean lines of the dark tile in the master bath, it finds itself in a style that has come to be known as a coastal transitional. It sits at a crossroad with modern building elements but is still perceived as what is understood as the traditional shape of a home.
The clients have fully integrated into the beach lifestyle and with a deck that has a sunken spa, sun chairs, fire pit and barbecue, watching the sunset over the ocean after a long day at the beach has never felt so good.
